The Agency’s cold rooms go operational

The 3,000 m2 warehouse that the Ethiopian Pharmaceuticals Supply Agency (EPSA) inaugurated on January 3, 2020 went operational on February 2, 2020, disclosed the cold room manager, Michael Zewge.
He further explained that the cold rooms have a capacity of 300m3 each and can store medical inputs between 2 to 8 degree centigrade of temperature.
Moreover, the storage facility is also equipped with two freezer rooms of 100m3 each that can store medical inputs between -25 to -15 degree centigrade of temperature.
Michael noted that the cold rooms eliminate the demurrage cost the Agency incurred; he also pointed out that storing the pharmaceuticals at the Agency’s warehouse speed up the distribution of pharmaceuticals to health facilities.
Besides their vital role in delivering vaccines, laboratory inputs and other pharmaceuticals to end users at the required level of quality, the cold rooms complement the plan to reduce maternal and child mortality.
